Chechem Ha Cave ~ Cayo

Chechem Ha was used by the Maya for their blood letting rituals

Chechem Ha Cave was used by the Maya as a  storehouse for grain as well as a ceremonial centre for their after-life, blood letting rituals. The different levels of the cave contain numerous pristine artifacts, including large pottery vessels, some with paintings and other distinct markings. One of the chambers contains artifacts used in performing their ritualized ceremonies.

Some climbing and footwork required to negotiate the ropes and ladders. Tour lasts about 90 minutes.

Chechem Ha (Half Day)

From San Ignacio it's a scenic twenty five minute drive into the Vaca plateau area and then a 20 minute hike up the mountain side to the cave's entrance.

A fair level of physical fitness is required. Casual clothing and hiking boots are the norm.

Vaca Falls is a 25 minute hike down to the Macal River or take a cool, refreshing swim at Chechem Hah Falls, less then 5 minutes walking distance from the entrance.
